Abstract

The stages in the development of Byzantine painting are schematically highlighted, while mentioning at the same time the basic components of the corresponding artistic production of Cappadocia.

Thus an effort is made to demonstrate the distinctiveness of the Cappadocian example and its relationship to the main artistic trends of Byzantium, as well as its degree of incorporation into these trends or, conversely, its independence and its own unique path. The presentation is chronologically arranged into five subsections.
